I dare say most of us have never endured such a time as we live in today. Restrictions on where we can go, what we can do, and who we can or cannot visit was virtually unfathomable just a few short months ago. Then we add onto that the closing of churches and the halting of in-person Mass. This has led many to a deep worry. When will we ever get these things we treasured so much back? Allison Gingras has written a book that though not meant for this time, has become one perfect for this time. Seeking Peace: A Spiritual Journey from Worry to Trust is the latest in her Stay Connected Journal for Women, and it’s a great addition.
If you are blessed to have Allison in your life and be able to call her friend, then you know as well as I do that Allison has the market cornered on “Worry Expert.” Trust me, she will not take offense to see me write these words as she admits it openly in this book. That’s what makes this book so powerful. Allison has been there. She has struggled with worry just like us, and she has assembled several tips on how to overcome that worry.
This book, however, is not a trendy, self-help book. Allison’s path to a (mostly) worry-free existence has come through a deep love of Scripture. It between the covers of her Bible where Allison found solace and the answers which she provides in the seven chapters of this book. Those chapters form the rungs of a ladder that will lead the reader from the pit of worry to the light of a more stress-free existence.
Allison uses her own life story and moments of worry to gently guide readers to the answers they and I dare say need. She chronicles how she became an “Olympic Worrier” and uses various instances in her own life as a backdrop to a book chock full of life lessons. Life does not have to be about waiting for the other shoe drop, rather it should be a continual journey of hope knowing what and where our ultimate destination is.
The book is laid out like the other books in the series of which Seeking Peace is the fifth. Each chapter opens with a prayer, a section to reflect upon events in your life, multiple scripture references to see where the Holt Spirit leads your heart, pints to ponder and write about at the end of each chapter and a closing prayer. All of this includes ample places to journal what you are lead to reflect upon.
Are you a worrier? You don’t have to be. Allison can attest to that and provides the tools to help you go from worry to trust in seven chapters rich in scripture and thought. Allison, bravo my friend!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
