Our Lady’s Wardrobe

Created with GIMP

Looking for a great book for the kiddos? I think I have one for you! Anthony DeStefano has written a unique book of poetry that introduces children to the Blessed Virgin Mary by using her clothes. That’s right her clothes. Add to this beautiful illustration work by Juliana Kolesova. The book is titled Our Lady’s Wardrobe and it is a delightful gem of a book.

Anthony begins the book by introducing children to the poor, humble, and meek girl who would become the mother of our Lord. He contrasts that with the splendor and majesty of her heavenly home. He teaches children through  the most famous apparitions in which Mary appeared delivered messages of love an hope. Those include:

  • Our Lady of Mount Carmel
  • Our Lady of Guadalupe
  • Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal
  • Our Lady of Knock
  • Our Lady of Lourdes
  • Our Lady of Fatima
  • Our Lady of the Angels

As a sampling of the poetry in the book here is the section on Our Lady of Lourdes:

She wore for little Bernadette –
a French girl pure and sweet –
a frilly veil, a long blue sash,
and roses on her feet.

She came from out a grotto
And the little French girl kneeled;
Then Mary made a fountain spring
where all the sick were healed.

If you are looking for a great book that will capture children’s attention give this one a try. The poetry flows and the art is amazingly beautiful. A combination that make’s Our Lady’s Wardrobe a winner!
