Is It a Sin to Vote Democrat?

child-945422_960_720

For over a decade now there has been an ever-burgeoning body of discussions and publications making the point that, for a Catholic with a well-formed conscience, it is a mortal sin to vote for any Democrat. “Well-formed conscience” means a conscience well-formed as defined by Holy Mother Church.

Each period before the presidential elections of 2008, 2012 and 2016, the list of intrinsic evils promoted by the Democrats grew. Their efforts to promote them increased in intensity and vehemence. They are now striving to have all taxpayers pay for their making these evils a dark reality across America. Again and again, they propose something more diabolical, more demonic.  Again and again, it seems that, even for them,  no further more wicked evil is possible.

Not so. There have been developments and events, since 2016, that makes it now more crystal clear than ever: It is a mortal sin for a Catholic with a  well-formed conscience to vote for any Democrat! Please, please, note well: This in no way says or implies that anyone should vote for any candidate of any other party.

Intrinsic Evils

There are intrinsic evils,  actions that are always morally wrong, no matter what the circumstances, no matter what the intent of the person acting.  The  Catechism of the Catholic Church states:

There are acts which, in and of themselves, independently of circumstances and intentions, are always gravely illicit by reason of their object; such as blasphemy and perjury, murder and adultery.  ( CCC 1756) . . . There are concrete acts that it is always wrong to choose because their choice entails a disorder of the will, i.e., a moral evil (CCC 1761).

To counter Democrat adherence to the party’s plethora of intrinsic evils,   there are no “proportionate reasons” about some other candidate or some other party that could be asserted so that a Catholic could, in good conscience,  vote for a Democrat. One cannot hide behind “Stalin is a racist, so I can in good conscience vote for Hitler.” One cannot say, e.g., that “Candidate A of Party B promotes the torture of puppies and kittens, therefore, I can in good conscience vote for a Democrat.”

There are no “proportionate reasons” regarding some other candidate’s promotion of an intrinsic evil that can outweigh the impact of all the multiple intrinsic evils combined. According to Catholic Church teaching, there can be no valid reason to justify voting for a Democrat because the party platform endorses objectively evil positions.

What was New Only a Year Ago

Since they promoted the dehumanization of slaves in 19th century America, has the growth of  Democrat evil ever slowed?   No. It has been a steady progression, an ever-flowing onslaught, from subhuman slaves, to eugenics and the party’s RETA policies (racial eugenic targeted abortions), to abortion, to euthanasia, and assisted suicide, cloning, embryonic cell research – all of resulting in the deaths of human beings.  Because of the Democrats, more and more, we see dead people.

Prior To 2019

From 2016 to 2019, the Democrat river of evil continued to flow. Back in 2018, there were two new aspects to Democrat evil:

Two more recent developments have exposed the Democrat party for what it really is, and has been. First, proceeding initially under the guise of seeking only “toleration,” they sought to accord the legal status of “married” to those who voluntarily engage in homosexual actions. Secondly, Democrats who in the past supported, advocated for and demanded taxpayer support of all abortions, now openly celebrate abortion” (Guy McClung, Vote Democrat, Mortal Sin, The American Catholic, July 16, 2018).

New Evil(s) in 2019?

Satan never sleeps. Just when you think the Democrat juggernaut of evil can go no further, WHAM! BAM!  Their evil, hydra-like organization sprouts new wicked heads and grows longer tentacles.

Infanticide. Baby murder.  Even for the Democrats, this is difficult to believe.   Legalized infanticide will undoubtedly be an integral part of the Party’s 2020 Platform. Of the realistic contenders for the Democrat nomination for president in 2020, the overwhelming majority support the killing of babies who are born alive after an attempted abortion.

Democrat death dealers now see the political efforts to protect babies who live and survive an attempted abortion as a restriction on an absolute right. The only “American right” considered legally sacred. It has of late not been possible to get the Democrats to vote, on the record, in the House of Representatives to proceed to a vote on proposed anti-infanticide legislation.  Over 70 times now the Democrats have prevented such a vote. All the Democrat senators running for president — Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand and Bernie Sanders — have voted to block an anti-infanticide bill in the U.S. Senate.

Finally, It’s Over? The Limit of Evil?

This is, of course, not the end. Evil will not say “Now that we are killing babies born alive, new U.S. citizens, across America, that is enough. Now we will stop. Our evil will go no further. We Democrats have now satiated our blood lust. We have achieved sufficient political clout to satisfy our will to dark power.” How Deep Into The Pit Of Hell Can They Go? Dream on if you think it will end when they enshrine infanticide into law. What new evils for 2020 and beyond?  If they succeed in creating a right to infanticide, the following evils will logically proceed:

  • The selling of a live baby who has survived an abortion
  • Harvesting of organs and body parts from the child while still alive  before it is “terminated” successfully
  • In vivo vivisection for “educational” purposes of a living child
  • Buying a still-living abortion victim and using the child in an evil ritual with live child sacrifice
The Insanity Continues

Another evil now being pursued is to have the age of consent for minors reduced even further. Now, why would they want that?

Nuts? Off the wall? Crazy? That would be a reasonable person’s reply in the 1960s if they learned mass abortion would be allowed in the United States. Tell someone 50 years ago that this would be done because the U.S. Supreme Court created a “right to abortion. Those folks hearing you would think you had gone off the deep end! Unfortunately, this is our grim reality in America.

Yes, what is prophesied here is off the deep end, but that is precisely where the Democrat death dealers will take us all – as they have done and have continued to do since they lynched the first subhuman black “property,”  a slave, in the 19th century.

Democrat: Stone Cold Killers

Writer Selwyn Duke sees these Democrats for who they truly are:

Leftists were once part of the counter-culture, but the only culture that’s truly theirs is the Culture of Death . . .  So you can point fingers, modern Democrats, but in your hearts, some of you, I suspect, know exactly what too many of you are: stone-cold killers. [Murder: It’s a Democrat Thing, The American Thinker, August 7, 2019]

Conclusion

Yes, of course, there are individuals of other political persuasions and parties who are in lockstep with some or all of the Democrat evils but there is no other group or party, entire and in total, so thoroughly bloodied, so completely ensouled with such consummate evil to its dark core. This raises a question. In the past, pastors, bishops, and cardinals used the “seamless garment” subterfuge to keep good Catholics voting for Democrats. More recently, they have employed the  political legerdemain of “we are not single-issue voters” so that Democrat support of numerous  intrinsic evils would be ignored, some adding theological hocus-pocus about “proportionate reasons.” They seem to come up with new deceptions every election season to convince the faithful, implicitly or explicitly, you can vote for Democrats.

In light of the new Democrat promotion of infanticide, we must ask, “How will the pastors, bishops and cardinals try to deliver the Catholic vote, again, to their Democrats—the Party of Death?”

  2. Pauline-Spot on-thre are so many ways, impoortant ways, the democrat party fo today is not the democratic party of 40-50-60 years ago. Are you on LinkedIn? Guy McClung, Texas

  3. The quick answer to the question is “yes”, it is a sin to be a member of the Democractic Party let alone vote a for a democrat.

It has been specifically stated by many bishops that it is a grave sin to vote for any candidate who favors abortion, such as the warning given by Bishop Gacida in his radio clip concerning voting for Obama (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ilIefMzYdM). In addition. is the official statement from then Cardinal Ratzinger:

The Church teaches that abortion or euthanasia is a grave sin. The Encyclical Letter Evangelium vitae, with reference to judicial decisions or civil laws that authorize or promote abortion or euthanasia, states that there is a “grave and clear obligation to oppose them by conscientious objection. […] In the case of an intrinsically unjust law, such as a law permitting abortion or euthanasia, it is therefore never licit to obey it, or to ‘take part in a propaganda campaign in favour of such a law or vote for it’” (no. 73). Christians have a “grave obligation of conscience not to cooperate formally in practices which, even if permitted by civil legislation, are contrary to God’s law. Indeed, from the moral standpoint, it is never licit to cooperate formally in evil. […] This cooperation can never be justified either by invoking respect for the freedom of others or by appealing to the fact that civil law permits it or requires it” (no. 74).

Not all moral issues have the same moral weight as abortion and euthanasia. For example, if a Catholic were to be at odds with the Holy Father on the application of capital punishment or on the decision to wage war, he would not for that reason be considered unworthy to present himself to receive Holy Communion. While the Church exhorts civil authorities to seek peace, not war, and to exercise discretion and mercy in imposing punishment on criminals, it may still be permissible to take up arms to repel an aggressor or to have recourse to capital punishment. There may be a legitimate diversity of opinion even among Catholics about waging war and applying the death penalty, but not however with regard to abortion and euthanasia.

    Case Closed.

  4. Political Catholicism is not a very attractive feature for me. I would rather serve & help than play politics for clickbait entertainment. They never learn how to let go of the world & be at peace.

  5. Even if you are personally against abortion, but vote for a democrat, you are committing a grave sin. The democratic party’s platform is pro choice, which means they condone abortion. All of the democratic presidential candidates are in favor of abortion up to birth. And the majority are in favor of infanticide!

  6. Why stop there? As long as you’re sitting on the Great White Throne, why not tell us if it has been, or perhaps soon will be, a mortal sin for a Catholic to serve in the military if a Democrat is elected president? Surely that empowers the evil agenda of the Democrats more than voting for a Democratic candidate for sheriff, so if the latter is (as we have heard ex cathedra) a mortal sin, the former must be as well.

  8. There is what is known as “invincible ignorance,” a failing of climate alarmists. Statistics, physics, do not convince them, so rational discussion is not an option with these. It’s nice to learn that one of the most prominent, one of the leaders in Climategate, lost a court decision recently and will have to pay court costs for his legal vendetta.

    1. Denial of man-made climate change is a fringe opinion. You might as well argue that black people are genetically less intelligent. It’s got about the same amount of support.

    2. Thank you, CC, for illustrating my point. Arguments by analogy are intrinsically fallacious. Here is one source to refute your claim about being in the minority (it’s not for you, since I doubt that you’re willing–as I was in 1990–to explore both sides of the AGW controversy, but may help others reading these comments). In any case, as a physicist and one who has studied the history of science, I know that scientific “truth” is not determined by majority vote (particular if that majority is composed mostly of politicians, entertainment celebrities, and administrators of “scientific agencies”). Here’s the link:
      https://climaterealists.org.nz/sites/climaterealists.org.nz/files/Legatesetal13-Aug30-Agnotology%5B1%5D.pdf

    3. You link to an article from a journal which is not a peer-reviewed scientific journal. It reviews philosophy and education; a century ago such a journal would have contained articles on the extent to which evolution vs. creationism was being taught in the schools, not whether either approach is scientifically valid.

This article takes as its premises that 1) the concentration of CO2 is not increasing, 2) if it were that would have no effect on climate, and 3) the climate is not changing. The point of the article is that if you repeat a lie often enough people will believe it (no argument there), and that “the environmental lobby” has convinced a lot of people as to a climate crisis which in fact does not exist.

The main author also is on record stating that more CO2 will actually be good for the planet and for mankind. I hardly have to say it, but his academic career has been largely funded by the oil industry.

    4. For those of an inquiring mind who would like to research the truth, here are links to reviews of refereed papers denying AGW (anthropic Global Warming). None of these deny climate change, which we know from historical records occurs. By the way, as a physicist who has refereed papers, had papers refereed, and sat on reviewing boards for grants, I am aware of the failings of the reviewing process. I hold it against the pseudo-scientists who advocate AGW that they have perverted the reviewing process. See “Scientific Integrity: Lessons from Climategate” :https://rationalcatholic.blogspot.com/2015/01/scientific-integrity-lessons-from.html
Here are the promised links and statements by eminent scientists:
      https://skepticalscience.com/peerreviewedskeptics.php
      https://wattsupwiththat.com/2017/10/25/so-far-this-year-400-scientific-papers-debunk-climate-change-alarm/
      https://thefreedomarticles.com/scientists-refute-manmade-global-warming/
And as I said previously, science isn’t decided by majority vote, as anyone who has studied the history of science knows.

    5. I would like you to explain:

      1. The shrinking of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets.

      2. Why since 1950 CO2 has gone from 300 to 420 ppm whereas never in the past 800,000 years it has been over 300 ppm and cyclically was often a good less less.

      3. Why five of the last 9 years have been the hottest on record.

      4. Why the Northwest Passage, in which dozens of ships were stuck in ice and abandoned, can now be traversed easily.

  9. Meanwhile as Bishop McElroy observed the destruction of the environment and planet makes all other moral issues pale. No planet. A poisoned environment means life can hardly develop let alone flourish!

And has pro-life been reduced to pro-birth as Joan Chittister, OSB observed?

    1. Sticking to theology and church doctrine, no one has yet put “ignoring the planet” on the list of intrinsic evils like abortion. Crying “global warming” or “climate change” is a typical totalitarian gambit, like “peak oil” and “population bomb” in the past – and yes even “global cooling” – by which totalitarians and socialists, and some democrats, attempt to take total control of a country.

A noted democrat staffer for a democrat office holder has admitted that they don’t so much care about earth as they do about gaining totalitarian power over America-and that is why they are pushing the “Climate change” scare.

Throwing this red herring into the abortion/infanticide argument cannot divert attention from the 60,000,000 plus dead since Roe; or from the babies born alive who are killed after birth. Nor can it nullify the democrat humanity-denial ploy for killingl see, e.g. https://www.the-american-catholic.com/2019/08/09/democrat-baby-lynching/.

No other “moral issues pale” compared to the destruction of human lives by abortion or the destruction of the institution of marriage by acceptance of homomarriage.

      Guy McClung, Texas

  10. Josephine Harkay

There is no argument about it, abortion kills a human life and it is forbidden by God’s 5th Commandment! However, with all due respect, it is the Church that has the power to bind or loose things on earth, and it is her duty to disseminate that information to the faithful. Therefore I would like to see an official statement by the Catholic Church that clearly states that to vote for a pro-abortion candidate (there are also Republican pro-abortion politicians) is a mortal sin even if the voter is against abortion but prefers all the other social-political issues the candidate stands for.

    1. Josephine H, [and everyone else], thank you for taking the time to read this article. I believe there are several reasons that you will never see the ‘official statement’ you mention that clearly states the bovious conclusion aboutr mortal sin voting for democrats. One of these reasons is now percolating thru the media – that for decades the homoarchy in control of the Church has realized that, if they and their ‘gay clergy mafia’ oppose abortion, such opposition will, implicitly, be an opposition to their efforts to normalize consensual homosexual actions and, in terms of their perverted theology, make their perversions acts of virtue.

Jorge Bergoglio’s Amoris Laetitia, in its declaration that its new moral principles applied not only to public adulterers who are to be joyfully integrated into the daily communal life of the Church, but also to every catholic in whatever situation they may be – wink, wink, nudge nudge . . . including all the homosexual clergy from priest to cardinal.

Josephine, this is one major reason the official statement you seek has never been made – and so long as the homoarchy is in power, it never will be.

Gob bless you and keep you. Guy McClung, Texas

    2. Unfortunately the poster is bound not by concern for the unborn but by his culture war passions. The post is more partisan than pro-life and you will not see endorsement for anything that crosses parties.

It is odd that he ties support for legalized abortion to male homosexuality. Nobody is less likely to consider an abortion as an option than a gay male couple.

Mr. McClung always takes the Republican position, whether it’s on global warming, the Paris accords, the Affordable Care Act, separating desperate migrant children from their parents, the death penalty, renewable energry, supporting our allies, contraception, unions, same-sex marriage, gun control, cuts in social services, tax cuts weighted toward the rich — whether or not these positions find support in the Catechism. He will not be able to tell you anything on which he agrees with Democrats and disagrees with Republicans.

  11. The “party of abortion” is the Republicans, whose policies result in more abortions.

If you seriously want the number of abortions to go down, vote Democratic.

  12. The biggest threat to life is man made global warming. And only Democrats take it seriously. Republicans are determined to do nothing. From this viewpoint it is a mortal sin to vote Republican.

    1. Eh I think abortion is much more threatening than global warming since abortion literally kills the preborn in their mother’s womb.

    2. Salvatore Cristello

No, because it’s a theory and the vast majority of pollution comes from China, Russia and India. 60 million abortion deaths is a fact. Democrats promote death. All American deaths in during the 20th century were less than one million and yet we murder over a million every year.

    3. Democrats don’t take global warming seriously; if they did, they wouldn’t live in mansions and fly in private jets (except for the currently serving President and Vice President). I’ll believe there’s an emergency when the people telling me there’s an emergency start acting like there’s an emergency.
