This year, as Lent draws to a close, I thought I would share with you a powerful presentation of the Passion of Jesus Christ. This is the second installment of the powerful presentation of the Passion of Jesus Christ. “The Witnesses: Through the Eyes of Faith” was created during the time I worked in Christian radio. It presents the last hours of the Lord Jesus through the eyes of those who were there, those who were affected by final words and deeds of the Savior on the night He gave His life for humanity.

The Players, Part I…

Part I of the drama traces Jesus from the Last Supper and the institution of the Eucharist to the trial before Pontius Pilate. In the drama, we hear from Peter and John, two of the Lord’s closest disciples who share their experience of moving from fishermen to fishers of men, from timid, scattered souls to convicted Christ followers.

You will hear from Malchus, servant of the High Priest, and Nicodemus, perhaps the leading Pharisee in Jesus’ day, as their eyes are open in the radiance that shines through the Son of God. They will come to see the folly of men who close their minds to the Light that penetrates the deepest searching souls, and the peace that spills upon the hearts of those who seek what the Savior has to offer.

Two Gentiles will speak of the truth that reveals itself through the suffering Messiah as He is given over to the hands of His torturers.  Claudia, the wife of Pontius Pilate, will share the disdain she feels at seeing so innocent a man suffering at the hands of her husband; while the Centurion will watch in disgust as this Man of Righteousness is subjected to the cruelty of His executioners. Each will be given a vision that speaks a message to their troubled hearts, a message that carries over into the actions.

The Players, Part II…

Part II opens up with Christ condemned before the Jewish people, as Pilate washes his hands of Jesus’ blood.  Out of fear, he hands the King of kings over to the cruelty of the Roman soldiers. We hear once again from Nicodemus and John, whose minds and hearts are pierced by the pain of the Suffering Servant as He makes his way to the place of the skull. They will come to understand the powerful love that led the Son of God to give His life as a ransom for the many.

We will learn from Simon of Cyrene, and how the powerful gaze of the Suffering Servant transforms this reluctant passerby into one willing to share the load with the Lord of Life. The Centurion shares the profound contrasts between the power of the heavens and the despair of fearful men.

We will meet the two Marys: the mother who was blessed to bear the Son of God, and the daughter who was freed from many demons. Their tender tears are only matched by the faith that comes from the grace of the Savior who has redeemed the world, the One who makes all people brothers and sisters and children of the Father in heaven.

The story will close with a tender reunion with the disciples and a joyful restoration between our Lord and the Prince of the Apostles. John will remind us of the great love that led the Redeemer to the cross to save us from our sins.

The Drama Unfolds…

As you listen to the drama, let it call to mind the story that is read every Good Friday, and let it speak of the story behind the story, the drama that unfolds in the minds and hearts of those who are willing to open the door to the message of the Gospel.
