The Slow Death of Manhood—Dr. Taylor Marshall and Timothy Gordon

patrick coffin

The Patrick Coffin Show podcast features weekly interviews with A-list influencers and outliers in the effort to recover the Judeo-Christian roots of the culture. Patrick is the Canadian-born former host of Catholic Answers Live, and he has raving fans around the world. He injects these fascinating interviews with his own distinctive blend of depth and levity. If you’re tired of politically correct mediaspeak, you want to see God back in the public square, and you’re not allergic to having a laugh, you will love this podcast.

Self-described feminist singer Paula Cole had a hit single in 1996 titled “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone,” in which she bemoaned the dearth of real men (“Where is my John Wayne; where is my prairie song; where is my happy ending; where have all the cowboys gone?”). Something happened to men in the last 50 years. They stopped being men and became guys, and now, in tragic numbers, feckless soy boys.

Dr. Taylor Marshall and Timothy Gordon

Dr. Taylor Marshall and Tim Gordon of the smashing TnT podcast (Taylor Marshall and co-host Tim Gordon) and YouTube channel join me to talk about the death of men and how it has affected the behavior of the hierarchy of the Catholic Church. What would a resurrection of men look like?

In this episode, you will learn:

Why we need to stop validating the word feminism (namely its toxic meaning) with some kind of nice adjective, like “Christian feminism,” “new feminism.”

The roots of the crisis of masculinity.

How this crisis manifests itself in the disappointing behavior of so many priests, bishops, and cardinals.

Why the biblical analogy of Christ as Bridegroom and the Church as Bride remains the fundamental truth of the relationship between the sexes.

The basic distinction between masculine and feminine, and why the sexes are not “equal” but complementary.

The true meaning of submission in Ephesians 5 and why it doesn’t mean subjugation.

  1. I do. With so many apologists, all scrambling to act as conference speakers or experts which ones do you trust? Do any have a Mandatum from their bishop to teach? When a parish member comes to me and says, “So and so said this about the Faith” I listen. If it is correct great. If it is an apologist’s opinion, not the teaching of the Church I ask, “Do you receive the Sacraments from so and so?” “Do you go to your apologist when you have a problem in your marriage?” “Where does so and so receive authority to teach? EWTN, Catholic Answers or their personal blog? ” Too many apologists are “gurus” with “groupies”. Too many apologists charge ridiculous amounts to come and speak at parishes and conferences. Professional gurus need money to survive but when their popularity wanes then the cycle begins again as the apologists have to reinvent themselves or go back to regular work. Shall we list the many who have done this? When a guru, as in John Corapi falls many are scandalized, some in my parish are just now returning to the Church. They put their faith in “strong” men. Look where it got them.

  2. I think Fr Khouri might have been implying that few if any Christian Apologists are making their living by tent-making these days ,Patrick.
It has long struck me that the faith has never been so under attack. . . whilst simultaneously supporting burgeoning numbers of professional scribes. Are they clarifying or scarifying?
