Planned Parenthood: The Price of Justice

Recent videos, recorded by the Center for Medical Progress (CMP), will continue to add to the mounting disapproval of Planned Parenthood’s (PP) methods of providing what they refer to as women’s healthcare. It appears the winds of change might begin to blow are blowing in a new direction now, and though this is cause for thanksgiving, there is still more work to be done.

A government defunding of Planned Parenthood would most likely not stop abortions from occurring. Said defunding, however, still proves to be a good place to start because the one thing that has always been conveniently overlooked has now been exposed. The primary reality of what this organization does can no longer be hidden or ignored. Abortions are their business. Now, unfortunately, we see just how far this business extends beyond a child’s death; and all to generate further financial gain. If you have ever seen the documentary Blood Money, then the videos presented by CMP are more than enough to provide for the documentary’s sequel.

Planned Parenthood Contributors?

In the wake of these events, companies have begun to disaffiliate themselves from the organization, asking to be removed from their list of donors. However, many companies will still continue to support PP by matching the donations of their employees. 501(c)(3) organizations, which PP still remains, are eligible to receive these funds [Planned Parenthood also carries a 501(c)(4) status].

As Congress continues to investigate the past methods utilized by the IRS, and their alleged targeting of specific conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status, we must consider the degree by which double standards continue to exist in our society. It seems that certain groups, considered less counter-cultural, are viewed differently than to those one may label, extreme? One, however, must ask what about those moments when questions arise? Can companies justify matching donations for any organization, simply because their employees choose to contribute, even if that organization is under severe public scrutiny or government investigation? Does this demonstrate the support of the companies for a particular entity and might it also undermine justice? There are too many questions and too few answers.

When prominent members of society are suspected of illegal or unethical practices, many relationships are either severed, or at least suspended, pending an investigation (one need only be reminded of the ongoing example of Bill Cosby). The same holds true for numerous organizations. We live in a society that embraces due process and all should be considered innocent until proven otherwise. However, due to the sensitive nature in many of these cases surrounding individuals or industries (as in the case of PP), prudent steps are usually taken to ensure that justice can be brought swiftly, and without impediment. It is in the best interests of all involved. This is not a punishment, but rather a way for those in authority to do their job and have the full cooperation of all involved. It is imperative to ensure justice is served.

Holding Planned Parenthood Accountable

Planned Parenthood’s activity must be given the same treatment as any other organization. The IRS ensures that all organizations, which claim 501(c)(3) status (and therefore receive charitable funding) are all held to the same standards. These must be honored accordingly.

It will be interesting to see how this matter will continue to unfold, and many will be watching closely, including those who have contributed to PP in the past. The dark cloud currently looming over this organization shows no signs of dissipating anytime soon. The victims, however, must remain at the forefront of these proceedings. They are the ones who have paid the ultimate price in this industry’s attempt to deceive, through illicit and abhorrent dealings. The children, whose lives they profited from, deserve justice and so do their mothers.
