God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

December 25, AD2013 2 Comments

God rest ye merry, gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay.
Remember, Christ, our Savior
Was born on Christmas day.
To save us all from Satan\’s power
When we were gone astray.
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

The words from this Christmas song echo through my mind as I rejoice today in the birth of our Savior!  I am moved every time I hear this song. It seems when I happen to hear it, I am worrying over something that is out of my control.  This song is a clear reminder that God wants us to turn over our problems, our grief, our struggles, our worries to Him.  He’s saying, “Hey guys, I\’ve got this! Quit your worrying.  Just you wait and see… I’ve sent my Son to save all of you! It’s going to be awesome!”

How amazing is it that a tiny baby, born in such a humble setting, could conquer Satan’s power?  Christ Himself is so powerful that even as a helpless newborn He reigns over sin, evil, and death! If that can’t soothe us I’m not sure what can.

Today, as we gaze upon the newborn Savior, we can indeed rest knowing that God is there to calm our worries, ease our fears, and alleviate our anxieties.  He has given us the greatest gift this Christmas… the gift of life and salvation.  He only asks that we surrender our entire selves to Him, including anything that brings dismay into our lives – our misgivings, our strife, and our stress.  In return we receive a gift that truly brings comfort and joy!

Thank you, God, for Your gift of everlasting life wrapped so beautifully and humbly as a tiny infant born in a manger.  May we accept Your gift and allow Him to always bring us comfort and joy.
