A Devotional: We Have the Victory in Christ

Culture Shock, conversion

“But thanks be to God, who has given us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” -1 Corinthians 15

Victory in Christ

There is much talk today about becoming a more positive person. If you are on social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and other sites, you will see quite a few posts and articles on this topic. If we are honest, most of us do wish to become more positive and happy in our daily lives. It is true, I believe, that positivity and smiling more will make our days brighter.

However, when we join our hands with Christ on the path of life we will gain the true victory of blessedness. This path of holiness and of love is much more than positivity.

“But thanks be to God, who has given us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” -1 Corinthians 15

Worldly Victory and Christ’s Victory

Christ is found in the Holy Eucharist and in the Church.  He is also found in every one of our brothers and sisters. Most especially Christ is with those who have been rejected and left alone by the world because the man who died on a cross for the salvation of the world was frowned upon in his time and as well as today. It is sad for those who feel the same kind of despair that Christ suffered during his passion and suffering. But just as Christ died and rose from the dead, suffering individuals will have the victory too. It is one that will last forever into eternity in Heaven. This is a big difference from the positivity of the world.

Finding Victory in Our Daily Lives through the Lord

As we go about our days, we may encounter negative people, unkindness, and difficulty. Even, though Christ has already won the victory for us,  we need the constant reminders of His Presence through our prayers and the Holy Spirit. For myself, it may take a moment of silence, a small prayer or just walking away from the negativity I have encountered in my life. It is a struggle, but it is a struggle worth the effort to be affirmed by God through prayer and His love.

The next time you encounter an angry person, a difficult decision, anxiety, depression or just a bad day, remember that Christ is with you and reach out to Him. It is not a “magic wand” but Christ is with us, transforming suffering through His victory on the cross.

  1. I often forget that victory is ours in Christ. I know it intellectually, but when I’m in the midst of a struggle, I become a five-year-old having a spiritual temper tantrum instead of clinging to the awesome truth that God works all things to the good and gives victory to His children. Great article…
